My dress for the Saturday Night Gala

Saturday was another day filled with riveting classes and conversions culminating in the Saturday Night Gala. Before the Gala, I attended the following. A more hands-on class than my mostly lecture classes of yesterday, a class called Ladies hair-Styling techniques: From Gibson to Garbo where we looked at how to recreate the hairstyles of the early parts of the twentieth century. My last morning class was with Jennifer Rosburgh and that was Dressing the Silhouette: The Suffragette. This class prompted my mother and me to head over to the marketplace and get matching Redthreaded 1910s corsets to start our own Suffragette adventures! (Cynthia thought it was cute that we were getting matching corsets) After a quick lunch break I headed to Overview of Women in Uniform and Workwear in WWII was the teacher JoAnn, creator of Laughing Moon Merchantile Patterns, had many period examples to study. Then I was off to my last class before getting ready for the gala which was Orientalism and Japonism: Japanese Influence on Dress in the Late 19th Century which analyzed how the West viewed Japan during the Victorian Era and as well as gave a brief overview of Japanese kimono history in terms of styling and prevailing fashion trends. In addition to all the classes at Costume College, you also get to see a lot of costumes and meet people just walking around. (see left)

Now onto the event of the evening the “Saturday Night Gala” the theme this year was “Opulent Streets of Venice”. The Gala starts off with a red carpet, more about that below, were everyone struts their stuff and it is great because everyone is so supportive and lovely. There were countless lovely and extravagance dresses on display and so I have included the few I was able to snap here. If I knew the person’s social media names I have included them in the capitions.
I didn’t catch this lovely person’s name but I adored her bustle dresss the colors are giving me “Brave” vibes. Also the people behind her are waiting to take pictures of the lovely people when they exit the runway.
Here is the back of the goregous gown. In front of her the forwd that always gathers on either side of the runway that is open for about an hour before the Gala Dinner, but many people skip the dinner and just go to the runway and see all the beautiful dresses.

Pattern I used for my Gala Gown
I had the theme in mind when I was in Venice, Italy earlier this year and got a masquerade mask to match my outfit. I used a 1951 Butterick pattern (1) out of a gold metallic twill (2) and paired my outfit once again with the “Peggys” from Royal Vintage (3) and a vintage 1940s Cord handbag.
